We know that bands like to call themselves outlandish things, seemingly especially in the 60's... Unit 4 + 2, The Lemon Pipers, The Electric Prunes, Crispian St. Peters (who was actually just one guy), to name a few. Let's go back a bit further, say, 1924. That, dear children, was when The Skillet Lickers were formed.
Yes, the name is amusing, but the best part of this story is that you can buy The Skillet Lickers on iTunes! I can see how Apple needed to secure the rights to this stuff before The Beatles catalogue... hell, they can wait, Yoko's only 76 years old, The Skillet Lickers are timeless, man.
